The Collector made these remarks while participating in the 100th episode of the “Rythu Nestham” at Nadigudem on Tuesday. He praised the farmers for achieving high yields with minimal water through efficient farming practices. Highlighting the heavy water requirements of paddy cultivation, the Collector explained that growing paddy on one acre requires nearly 4.5 to 5.5 million liters of water. In comparison, cotton requires around 2.5 million liters per acre, while other dryland crops consume significantly less water. Considering the current drought conditions and the uncertainty of irrigation water supply through the Nagarjuna Sagar canals, he advised farmers to utilize the available limited water wisely by opting for alternative crops.
