The National Union of Namibian Workers, the Trade Union Congress of Namibia, the Namibian Employers’ Federation and the Namibian Employers Association, said they have already submitted the names of those individuals mandated by their respective constituencies as potential members of the Labour Advisory Council.
The Labour Advisory Council is established under the Labour Act, 2007 as a statutory forum comprising representatives of the government, registered trade unions and registered employers’ organisations.
Sections 93 and 94 of the Labour Act assign the Council a broad advisory mandate and establish its tripartite composition.
“Tripartism depends upon [the] government, organised labour and organised business engaging as distinct, representative and independent partners.
An independent, properly functioning Labour Advisory Council is essential to ensure that organised labour and organised business can consult their constituencies and contribute informed perspectives before important decisions are finalised.
