Jayashankar Bhupalpally: District Collector Rahul Sharma has urged farmers to shift towards vegetable cultivation and intercropping, saying these farming practices offer higher profits than traditional crops while requiring less water.
Inspecting vegetable and intercrop fields cultivated by farmers Yadagiri, Marth Ramesh and Bora Rajayya, Sharma interacted with them to understand cultivation methods, crop yields and marketing opportunities.
He said intercropping helps farmers earn better income with lower investment, reduces pest attacks and ensures stable returns through crop diversification.
Farmers informed the Collector that mulching has significantly improved vegetable yields while reducing labour requirements.
The Collector later purchased vegetables directly from the farmers and instructed horticulture officials to establish a special exhibition stall at the IDOC office to showcase the profitability of vegetable cultivation and encourage more farmers to adopt modern, water-efficient farming practices.
