One person was killed Saturday when a car crashed into the center divider of a freeway transition, veered back across all lanes to the right shoulder and hit a tree, catching fire in the Arleta area of Los Angeles. The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:17 a.m. Saturday and occurred on the transition road from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway. A witness told the CHP the tree and the car became engulfed in flames. Their name, age and gender will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office. A SigAlert, issued at 4:05 a.m. shutting down all but the HOV lane on the transition from the southbound Golden State (5) to the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, was cancelled at 8:11 a.m., the CHP said.
