New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is preparing to roll out a three-tier public awareness campaign on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, to familiarise councillors, civic officials and residents with their responsibilities under the new framework, officials said. The initiative comes as the civic body pushes to improve source segregation and reduce the volume of waste reaching Delhi’s landfills. Kapoor said the campaign would also raise awareness of the duties and penalties prescribed under the new Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, while stressing the importance of waste segregation at the source. Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed concern that nearly 50 per cent of Delhi’s municipal waste is not segregated at source and an equal proportion is only dumped at landfill sites. As part of the initiative, concessionaires responsible for waste collection and management will also be roped in to mobilise volunteers and engage directly with residents on segregation practices, Kapoor said.
