Until Dawn and Directive 8020 developer Supermassive Games has commenced a redundancy consultation process that could result in 75 employees being laid off. Supermassive has downsized significantly in recent years, casting the future of the studio and its narrative-focused franchises—which includes The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry–into doubt. The studio laid off 36 employees in July 2025 and delayed Directive 8020 in an effort to add more polish.
