Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has strongly criticised the Bellandur police for arresting a man who had approached the authorities with information about suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Bengaluru, terming the action a "complete misuse of the legal process."
According to the petition, Nagendra lodged a complaint with the Bellandur police at around 11.30 pm on July 22 regarding the alleged presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the city.
Expressing strong displeasure over the sequence of events, the High Court observed that the action of the police appeared to be an abuse of the legal process.
The bench questioned the Home Department over the manner in which the case was handled and asked whether suspected illegal immigrants had become more important than the residents of Bengaluru.
According to the petition, Nagendra had been collecting information on suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and sharing it with government agencies for some time.
