A pickup vehicle, carrying devotees to Haridwar for a pilgrimage and a holy dip in the Ganges, collided violently with a truck at around 12:30 a.m. Three occupants of the pickup died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries. Upon receiving information about the accident, the Niwari Police immediately rushed to the scene and launched relief and rescue operations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the pickup vehicle had been purchased recently. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bhaskar Verma said, “We received information around 12:30 a.m. that a pickup vehicle had collided with a truck. He added that the truck has been impounded and its driver and conductor have been taken into custody.
