The protesters organised the march on the 17th day of their demonstration against the alleged irregularities in the conduct of competitive examinations for government jobs. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the police action against the protesters and urged the Jharkhand government to listen to them and resolve their grievances. The Congress is a member of the ruling Mahagathbandhan alliance in the state, headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Meanwhile, Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s former chairperson L Khiangte was arrested by the state Criminal Investigation Department in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
