The Uttar Pradesh Police has detained four persons from two shops for allegedly selling non-vegetarian food along routes designated for the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage in the Bareilly district, PTI reported.
The administration has directed traders along designated Kanwar Yatra routes not to sell non-vegetarian food during the Hindu month of Sawan, which began on July 30 and ends on August 28, the Hindustan Times reported.
The shop’s tin shed and counter were later bulldozed, PTI quoted Bahedi Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh as saying.
The circle officer said that traders have already been told about the restrictions on selling non-vegetarian food along Kanwar Yatra routes during the month of Sawan.
During the Kanwar Yatra, devotees, known as kanwariyas, walk hundreds of kilometres to collect water from the Ganga near Haridwar and carry it back to their home states to offer at temples.
