Tampa officials confirmed a $1 million repaving initiative is now underway on New Tampa Boulevard, covering the roughly 1.8-mile section between Meadow Pointe Drive and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. Nearly 12,000 vehicles pass through this corridor daily, so the city opted to run construction overnight rather than during peak hours. Beyond the risk to individual vehicles, van Rooyen said potholes force drivers into split-second decisions that can endanger everyone nearby. That ranking system falls under the city's broader Fix It Fast program, which officials credit with accelerating pothole repairs. So far this year, roughly 30 miles of Tampa streets have been repaved, with a citywide target of 80 miles by year's end.
