Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir has stirred controversy after openly calling for the continuation of Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. However, he questioned whether his advocacy for a Muslim-Muslim ticket should be considered wrong. He subsequently declared that his vote in 2027 would again go to a Muslim-Muslim ticket and asked other Muslims to do the same. Others, particularly some northern voices, argued that a Muslim-Muslim ticket could remain politically viable in the North despite the controversy surrounding it. Nigeria is a Muslim country and if you don’t want to accept a Muslim-Muslim ticket, you should leave Nigeria because it belongs to us.
