The alert covers the East of England and runs from Tuesday, August 11 at 9am until Friday, August 14 at 9pm. The amber alerts are issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and warn that "significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures". This could include "a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 or over," and "likely increased demand on all health and social care services". Although some rainfall is forecast for the weekend, including in southern areas that have seen little rain in recent weeks, it will not make up for the shortfall in recent weeks and months, forecasters warn. Forecasters at the Met Office are considering putting an amber or even red weather warning in place, but this is an extremely rare occurrence.
