Bill Ulrich, one of the titans of South Jersey basketball, passed away on Aug. 9 surrounded by family and remembered fondly by generations of Sterling High School athletes and colleagues across South Jersey. Ulrich guided the Silver Knights' girls program for 20 years, winning 13 Colonial Conference titles, seven south Jersey sectional titles and three NJSIAA Group 2 championships. Ulrich returned to New Jersey and coached boys basketball, first at Asbury Park before taking a mathematics teaching position at Sterling. He has covered everything from Super Bowls and Final Fours to Tri-County Swimming but he's happiest on a sideline interviewing South Jersey scholastic athletes.
