Emergency help offered to rough sleepers as severe weather protocol activated

This is as the borough council activates its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP).
The council urged anyone sleeping rough, or those who know of someone in this situation, to contact Alongside Charity, StreetLink, or the council’s housing team for more information.

Basingstoke is forecast to be particularly hot on Tuesday, reaching a high of 29C between 3pm and 5pm.
The heat will persist into the early evening, with 28C expected at 6pm, before temperatures ease to 25C at 8pm and 18C by 11pm.
