Lancashire County Council’s trading standards team has joined forces with Lancashire Constabulary, Preston City Council and market traders to roll out the Real Deal scheme in a bid to support legitimate businesses. The Real Deal initiative is a nationally recognised scheme that helps keep marketplaces free from fake products. Traders at Preston Market will now sign up to a code of practice and work alongside authorities to spot and report suspicious activity. Sgt Tom Rettie from Preston City Centre’s neighbourhood policing team said: "Counterfeit goods are not a victimless crime. "By supporting the Real Deal initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to creating a safe, fair and welcoming marketplace where shoppers can buy with confidence.
