Nearly 15 years ago, at the invitation of her friend, shoe designer Christian Louboutin, Carolina saw the untouched beauty of the Melides rice fields. With space at a premium, Carolina cleverly designed this rustic retreat around one principal room that feels cosy for two and yet spacious for 12. Small, self-contained bedrooms fan out from this central space, providing a surprising amount of privacy for so limited a footprint. A tablecloth in ‘French Ikat’ in thyme from Carolina’s outdoor fabric collection showcases ‘Anna’ plates from Carolina Irving & Daughters. This was formerly a three-panel screen that designer Christian commissioned for Carolina 25 years ago from a gardener in the French village where he has a home.
