Aquaculture and sustainability were at the heart of discussions during a visit to UHI Shetland’s Scalloway campus by government minister Jim Fairlie. The islands minister disussed shellfish innovation and the future of Scotland’s seafood sector during his visit yesterday. Shell-volution is the ambitious programme supporting growth and resilience in Scotland’s mussel farming sector. The £4.4 million Islands Growth Deal project is funded by the UK and Scottish governments, and aims to transform Scotland's mussel farming sector. "Scotland's seafood sector matters to our rural, coastal and island communities, and innovation will help it thrive for years to come,” Mr Fairlie said.
