A service of thanksgiving for the life of John Mules, of Lower Kenneggy near Rosudgeon, will take place this Wednesday (August 12) in Balwest Methodist Church, at 11 am. After leaving Oxford, John had expected to complete two years of National Service but failed the medical examination due to a rugby injury. This saw him begin his teaching career earlier than planned, gaining employment at the historic Kettering Grammar School, where his first pay cheque was £32 a month. John started teaching physics at Helston Grammar School, before becoming head of science and later head of upper school when the school transitioned into a comprehensive. John also enjoyed taking part in the Hal an Tow on Flora Day each year while with the school, playing the part of Little John.
