Dr Sean Whitaker found the treasure in the North Cornwall historic district, lying directly on stubble, on what he described as a "Great day". The 'late medieval' gold ring is to be obtained by Castle Heritage Museum in Bude, and a reward will be given to Dr Whitaker in line with the treasure’s market value. Believed to have been a wedding ring, the find contained the inscription ‘De bon cœur’, which means ‘willingly’ in Gothic French script. At a treasure inquest on Monday (August 10), the ring was confirmed to be genuine by assistant coroner Guy Davies. The precise location where the ring was found has been withheld to protect the heritage of the Duchy of Cornwall.
