Mylah, a Year 2 pupil at Ormiston Hunnyhill Academy, impressed judges with her design to help remove rubbish from the ocean.
Her entry formed part of the school’s DT Days - Inspiring Future Engineers programme and was submitted to the national Primary Engineer 'If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do?'
Earlier this year, the university team visited Ormiston Hunnyhill Academy to share their plans and involve pupils in design activities, including the boat's exterior appearance.
The finished prototype was unveiled at the Primary Engineer Regional Leaders Award Exhibition and Awards Event in June.
Lisa Steedman, principal at Ormiston Hunnyhill Academy, said: "We are incredibly proud of every pupil who took part in this year's Primary Engineer competition.
