Developed by clinical, digital, and nursing teams at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD), the tool is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK and uses the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) for alcohol in a digital format. Lucie Chetwynd, lead specialist addiction nurse at UHD, said: "If not managed properly, alcohol withdrawal can have very serious consequences for patients. The tool was launched in July after two years of development and testing. Helen Turner, clinical digital nurse at UHD, said: "The e-form is easier to audit and speeds up the whole process. "We’ve had really positive feedback from our nurses on the wards and this now paves the way forward for other assessments for other teams."
