According to Alice Sitima, Public Relations Officer for Dowa Police Staton, the incident occurred during the early hours of 8 August 2026, at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in the District. She said, It is established that Nanthambwe was separated from Zimpita due to marital misunderstandings but was still secretly seeing him despite his marrying another woman. On the day of the incident, Nanthambwe went to attend a tombstone unveiling ceremony at Dzaleka but reportedly went to meet Zimpita and never returned home. The body was taken to Dowa District Hospital where a postmortem examination confirmed that death was due to suffocation following physical assault.
