According to Nkhata-Bay Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Devoter Mithi, the incident occurred during the night of August 8, 2026, at the deceased’s home in Chavula Village. Mithi said Kanyinji and his wife were warming themselves by a fire in an open kitchen when the wife heard a gunshot. Mithi said police have since arrested four suspects in connection with the incident. They have been identified as Ackim Phiri, 66; Boston Kanyinji, 60; Sindani Kanyinji, 27; and Charles Kanyinji, 26. All four suspects are from Chavula Village in the area of Senior Chief Fukamapiri in Nkhata-Bay District.
