Stormont Finance Minister John O’Dowd has said that his party does not intend to walk away from power-sharing PICTURE: LIAM MCBURNEY/PAFinance minister John O’Dowd has said that there is “no intent, plan or otherwise” by Sinn Féin to walk away from the power-sharing Executive at Stormont.
It comes after party colleague Conor Murphy, who is now a member of the Seanad in Dublin, warned last month there was “a danger the wheels could come off” if Stormont institutions are not reformed.
Mr Murphy said that while his party was committed to power-sharing, the DUP “have demonstrated that they don’t have a political will to make the executive work”.
When asked about the possibility of his party walking away from Stormont, Mr O’Dowd replied: “There is no intent, plan or otherwise by Sinn Féin to walk away from the institutions.
“Those are real challenges, there’s no question about that, and it takes partnership to make the Executive and the institutions work – but we are determined to make the institutions work and build a society in which everyone has an equal and fair share in and we can be proud of.”
