CHUNYA, MBEYA: Chunya District authorities have appealed to the government to provide more public education on the proper use of fertilizers to help farmers increase productivity and improve soil health. The call was made during a sensitization campaign on proper fertilizer use for the Southern Highlands Zone, led by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Steven Nindi. “Many farmers are eager to use fertilizers, but some end up applying them wrongly, leading to poor yields or soil degradation. He urged district agricultural officers to strengthen their extension services and ensure that smallholder farmers are reached with the right information on fertilizer blending, timing, and dosage. The campaign, which covers regions in the Southern Highlands, seeks to promote awareness on efficient fertilizer use, sustainable soil management, and access to quality inputs to support the country’s food security agenda.
