Peachland NewsPeachland rallies to support evacuees displaced by Bald Range wildfireMaking room for evacueesWhile the bulk of the Summerland evacuees from the Bald Range wildfire flowed into Penticton on Friday night, Peachland has absorbed its share while also having some of its residents forced from their homes. Peachland Mayor Patrick Van Minsel said residents have handled the challenge well so far. Van Minsel said the fire has also hit tourism hard, even as locals rally to support Peachland businesses. In West Kelowna, emergency support services have set up an evacuee centre at Royal LePage Place, where the Central Okanagan Food Bank is handing out food, clothing and fresh fruit to evacuees. "We had an agreement with the client — she wanted it to go feed the firefighters and evacuees instead," Martin said.
