Severe thunderstorms caused a partial roof collapse at a building in Springfield, Massachusetts, Saturday evening, displacing 45 people.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno declared a state of emergency that night as severe weather moved through the area.
Springfield Fire Department Springfield Fire DepartmentThe National Weather Service said a powerful burst of thunderstorm winds, known as a macroburst, began in West Springfield around 5:45 p.m.
The strongest winds along the storm’s path were estimated at 60 to 70 mph.
