Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge engaged in a verbal argument on Wednesday. JP Nadda stated that students who are wishing to participate in activism should be ready for police intervention. Nadda, the Leader of the Upper House, defended the police crackdown by recalling his time as a student activist during the Emergency and claiming that he was twice picked up from his classroom. Nadda was reacting to Kharge's accusation that democracy is unsafe under the BJP and his assertion that individuals who used "brutal force" on student demonstrators were still at large. In response to the Rajya Sabha's Leader of the Opposition, Nadda stated that the police had every right to take all necessary measures to maintain law and order.
