DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): The Northern Sumi Students’ Union (NSSU) has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the advertisement issued by the Nagaland Police Department on September 30, 2025, for the recruitment of 1,176 Constable (GD) posts, alleging continued under-representation of the Sumi community in state-level recruitment and service opportunities. According to the Union, the current recruitment process puts Sumi applicants from Wokha and Mokokchung at a distinct disadvantage, thereby perpetuating inequality. “The Northern Sumi community does not demand special privilege but seeks fair and rightful representation in all state processes, including police recruitment. The Union urged the Government of Nagaland, the Nagaland Police Department, and all concerned authorities to review the current recruitment process to ensure fair and proportionate representation of all tribes, including the Sumis of Wokha and Mokokchung districts. It also appealed to the government to acknowledge and address the long-standing grievances of the Northern Sumi community regarding representation in state services.
