Hoover is mainly known as a romance author, and Verity does have some steamy elements. The first teaser trailer for Verity was mostly atmospheric. Originally, Verity was going to come out in May, but that's also the month when The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters. However, Amazon MGM delayed the movie so there wouldn't be two Anne Hathaway films competing with each other. And given how creepy Verity looks, a pre-Halloween release date seems like a better fit anyway.
