The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a summons order issued against former prime minister Manmohan Singh and closed a criminal prosecution against him in a coal block allocation case. The Supreme Court said there was no cogent reason to set aside the conclusion of the CBI or to file a complaint against him. "Consequently, we allow the appeal and set aside the impugned judgment dated 11 March 2015 and the consequential order summoning the appellant to face trial," added the court. However, the Supreme Court stepped in and stayed the order. Meanwhile, Singh denied any illegality in his coal block allocation decision and questioned the lack of the required sanction for prosecuting public officials such as himself.
