Appeals court orders Maui Planning Commission to revisit preparation of an environmental review for Honuaʻula project

The Honuaʻula master-planned community project area is 670 acres on the southeast flank of Haleakalā.
Hoʻoponopono O Mākena and the Maui Tomorrow Foundation appealed the commission’s November 2022 approval of Honuaʻula Partners LLC’s preliminary site plan.
It must determine whether the project’s changes since 2012 warrant a supplemental environmental review before its Phase II approval can stand.
“We respect the court’s decision that the commission is also required to determine whether a supplemental environmental impact statement should be prepared.
