LOS RANCHOS, N.M. – Vara Winery and Distillery has reached the halfway point of its grape harvest, with crews picking grapes for its sparkling wine in Los Ranchos. KOB 4 got a behind the scenes look at the grape-picking process at Vara’s fields off Rio Grande in Los Ranchos. The winery will use the grapes from those fields for its sparkling wine, pinot meunier. “I would say that across the state, most wineries that deal with still wine are probably just now getting started,” said said Jon Murray, CEO of Vara Winery and Distillery. After crews pick the grapes, they take them immediately to the winery for pressing.
