A crew shortage meant that Transport for Wales (TfW) services between Swansea and Llandovery were unable to operate in either direction from around 5am.
Bus replacements were brought in to help passengers complete their journeys, though these took longer than rail travel and required extra time.
A bus service arrived at Llanelli at 5.27am and another reached Llandovery by 6.41am, both provided by AC Jenkins.
A spokesman for TfW said: "Due to a member of train crew being unavailable between Swansea (SWA) and Llandovery (LLV):"Services will be cancelled in both directions between Swansea (SWA) and Llandovery (LLV).
TfW reminded passengers that rail replacement road transport typically takes longer than scheduled train services, so they should allow extra time for their journey.
