Turns out there is a boatload of history about popcorn.And corn, also called maize, has been around in the Americas for thousands of years.In fact, it is believed that one of its first uses was for popping.Those early, early Americans knew what was good. Some of the oldest evidence of popcorn comes from the Bat Cave – yes, really – in western New Mexico.Popcorn ears dating to around 2000 B.C. Every Victorian cookbook had at least one popcorn recipe.Popcorn balls soon became sought-after Christmas gifts.They are one of my favorite Christmas gifts. I always hope for a popcorn ball in the toe of my Christmas stocking.And a tin of Poppycock in the shaft of my stocking.And a whole lot of caramel corn spilling out the top.Santa, you have my list.
