By Laura KearnsAn Alcester councillor has hit out at his own authority – Warwickshire County Council– for leaving families waiting “well over the legal limit” for “crucial” special education, health and social care plans.
Cllr James Norris (Lib Dem) has accused the council of consistently failing to meet legal timelines for education, health and care plans (EHCPs).
Warwickshire County CouncilThe plans outline a child or young person’s special educational, health, and social care needs, along with detailing the extra support required and which school or college they should attend.
The process should take 20 weeks from the initial request, but Warwickshire County Council completed just 19 per cent of EHCPs within that timeframe in the past year.
Ofsted recommended the partnership – which consists of the county council and NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board – should ensure plans are issued and reviewed within statutory timeframes.
