"An agreement has been reached among the Caspian littoral states to hold a meeting of high-level officials in Tehran on September 23," Gharibabadi emphasized. He stressed that, given the limited time remaining before the meeting, all littoral states are expected to take the necessary measures to ensure that the gathering is held at an appropriate level. Gharibabadi further said that neighboring Turkmenistan had proposed holding a summit of the Caspian littoral states in Ashgabat on October 9 to discuss the environmental situation of the Caspian Sea and changes in its water level. An official also noted that 23 years ago, the five Caspian littoral states signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea in Tehran, with 20 years having passed since the convention entered into implementation.
