The Secretary of the Greater Kumasi chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Argin Frimpong, has called on the government and the Ministry of Education to consider posting trained teachers to private schools as part of measures to reduce teacher unemployment in the country.
He said posting some of the trained teachers to private schools would not only provide them with employment opportunities but also enable them to utilise the knowledge and skills acquired during their training.
“We, the GNAT, want the government to post some of the trained teachers to private schools to enable them to contribute to quality education and reduce the unemployment rate, because most graduates are still at home,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Moldgold School, Abigail Yayarah Karikari, has called on the government to support private schools with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) equipment to promote skills-based education.
Madam Karikari also highlighted some of the challenges confronting private schools, including inadequate textbooks, and appealed to the government to extend support to the sector.
