Austria has dismantled a sanctions-evasion scheme in which a Vienna-based company supplied equipment used to manufacture engines for Russian missiles and fighter jets, in violation of European Union sanctions, the country's interior ministry said Monday. The company falsified end-user certificates to supply restricted equipment, including specialized metalworking tools and computer numerical control machines capable of producing precision military parts, according to the ministry. Investigators said the goods were delivered to companies affiliated with Rostec, Russia's state-owned industrial conglomerate, and were used to manufacture military hardware including engines for cruise missiles and fighter jets. The ministry did not publicly name the company but said its 28-year-old Belarusian head was arrested in May and remains in custody. The case adds to a growing body of evidence that companies across the EU, including some with pre-existing Russian subsidiaries or joint ventures, have continued supplying restricted dual-use goods to Russia's defense industry despite sanctions imposed since 2022.
