The plan forms part of Destination Tweed, which will aim to transform the River Tweed into a tourist destination of national and international significance as one of the UK’s great long-distance walking and cycling routes through the creation of the River Tweed Trail. Situated just south of Broughton on the scenic A701, the remaining bridge supports mark the junction where the short-lived Talla Railway met the main line. Scottish Borders Council planners have now approved an application for the erection of a new footbridge at the site.
