Many Floridians rely on private wells for drinking water and septic systems to treat household wastewater. Hurricanes, flooding and routine maintenance challenges can affect the safety and reliability of the systems. To help homeowners prepare, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Florida Well Owner Network is offering a free four-part webinar series covering private wells, septic systems, water treatment and storm readiness. “Private wells and septic systems are important household infrastructure that can be vulnerable to storms, flooding and maintenance challenges,” Yilin Zhuang, a regional water resources specialized agent at the UF/IFAS Mid-Florida Research and Education Center, said.
