In 2010, I moved to Steamboat with a diploma, dog and boyfriend stoked to experience the mountain lifestyle. Close friends have been pushed out of town citing cost of living or lack of diversity. The cost of entry into our community directly impacts us—stability, opportunity and belonging become conditional and uncertain. Small actions can create powerful change: inviting someone on a walk, or simply showing curiosity and care are simple ways to help marginalized residents in Steamboat feel like they belong. And I believe that together, we can make Steamboat a place where everyone truly belongs.
