Agartala, Aug 11: Tripura recorded nearly four lakh tourist arrivals during the first six months of 2026, reflecting the state’s growing prominence as a tourism destination in the North-East. Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in a statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday, said 3,93,877 tourists visited Tripura between January and June this year. The latest edition, held in Gangtok in November 2025, brought together tourism stakeholders from the eight North-Eastern states, including entrepreneurs, buyers, sellers and government agencies. Cleanliness and sustainability initiatives, including the Swachhata Action Plan, Swachhata Pakhwada and Swachhata Hi Seva, are also being implemented at tourism destinations. With 3.93 lakh visitors recorded in six months, Tripura is seeking to further strengthen tourism infrastructure, connectivity and destination promotion to emerge as a major travel destination in the North-East.
