Hatters show giving nature for Take a Walk in the ParkBy ANNA SMITH Local Journalism Initiative on August 11, 2026. Organizer Helen Snortland observes there were more people stopping by to either donate or take pairs of gently used shoes this year in comparison to the inaugural event. The shoes were left in the park overnight to allow those who might not wish to shop during daylight hours to take a look, before being gathered again Monday morning. Both organizers expressed deep gratitude to the community for its generosity, which makes this event possible. While the event was set from 1-4 p.m., Snortland recalls arriving as early as 11:30 a.m. to find Hatters already setting out their donated footwear.
