Large plumes of smoke from the A31 fire, which broke out yesterday (Sunday), have been seen from the Island. Last night and this morning, Islanders in coastal areas have reported a strong smell of smoke. "We ask that you first check the smell of smoke in your area isn't caused by a separate fire, and if so, please dial 999." As of this morning, the A31 remains closed both ways.
