Professor Brandon S Shaw, who joined Bucks New University in June 2026, has secured funding from the Leverhulme Trust for a two-year research project examining the impact of physical inactivity on visuospatial processing. The study, entitled Visuospatial Processing: Consequences of Physical Inactivity, will explore whether spending long periods inactive affects the brain's ability to interpret visual information, navigate environments and respond to potential hazards. Researchers will investigate how inactivity could influence everyday tasks such as driving, judging distances and reacting to changing surroundings. Professor Shaw said: "This project is about understanding how inactivity affects the way we process space, react and coordinate movement. "With physical inactivity continuing to rise globally, it's important that we better understand not just the physical health impacts, but how it affects cognitive and visual function too."
