Councillor Ian Creswell, county councillor for Stourport Mitton, said: "Rather than sacrificing 8.5 hectares of Burlish Meadows, the council should commission an independent feasibility study into whether alternative sites can be identified without such significant environmental impact. Burlish Meadows is currently not a sports complex and has been described as being valued due to being open countryside. However, if an alternative location were identified that protected Burlish Meadows while meeting football development needs, both sport and nature could benefit. A spokesperson for Wyre Forest District Council said: "The council has not undertaken an independent site selection exercise or options appraisal comparing Burlish Country Park (known as Burlish Meadows) with alternative locations. "The proposal for disposal being considered arose from a specific request relating to land adjacent to Kidderminster Harriers' existing football facilities."
