A European train company could end Eurostar's dominance over the Channel Tunnel rail route.
The FS Italiane Group, Italy's state-owned railway company, has ordered 19 new high-speed trains via its subsidiary Trenitalia France.

Trenitalia France will also use the €2bn (£1.7bn) investment on routes from Paris to Lyon, Marseille and Milan by improving service quality and increasing train frequencies.
Alongside Trenitalia France, other operators have voiced their interest in establishing cross-Channel services, including Richard Branson's Virgin Trains, London-based startup Gemini Trains and Spanish startup Evolyn.
