EU scales up IRIS² satellite constellation News | August 10, 2026 By Asma AdhimiThe European Commission and SpaceRISE consortium have signed an implementation agreement moving the EU’s IRIS² secure satellite network into full-scale deployment. For eeNews Europe readers, the agreement signals significant new business for the region’s satellite, semiconductor and ground-infrastructure supply chains. The next phase covers the detailed constellation design, satellite manufacturing, launch procurement and construction of secure ground infrastructure. IRIS² will provide sovereign connectivity for EU governments, defense and security forces, and emergency services.Norway and Iceland are also participating in the program. The Commission, European Space Agency and EU Agency for the Space Programme will now work with industry to keep the expanded network on track for its first launches.
